Drawing Figure with Fabric Exercise

For this exercise, I drew a person holding a fabric of some sorts. The exercise was to capture the figure and the fabric and how eh light interacts with them both, and how that light effect each other. I used charcoal to draw the figure and used various construction techniques such as the head measuring technique and mapping out the figures proportions and body shape. I used basic shapes to work towards getting the figures body shape and details. Then proceeding to draw the cloth over it and mapping it to the person body to get the length and shape correct so I can do the lighting properly. Then I proceeded to map the shadows and shade them using charcoal.

overall, I think that it went very well. The shading is great and the form and cloth are drawn quite well. I quite like the shading as it isn’t flat and it’s nice and uniformly. The body is well proportioned and is nicely shaped. the cloth fits nicely as it matches with the body movements and interacts with the shading well. The construction helped well to proportional make the body as well. The only issue is with the head. The head is shamefully too large making it disproportional to the rest of the body. if I focused i bit more when shaping and doing the head I could have avoided this problem. overall it’s gone well and a bit of improvement and practise needed.
