Light Material Cloth/shawl Animation

for this animation test, I proceeded to start off by recording a drop of several different cloth light materials. these videos were also done in slow motion as well as in 4K to capture the movement of the cloth as well. I used a selection of cloth dropping multiple times to select the cloth type I wanted to imitate in my animation. I took about 28 videos including slow motion captures. the videos were quite informative as they helped me capture the movement of the cloth, as well as allowed me to imagine different ways it could move. these are some references I had:

Then I proceeded to use the videos as a reference to sketch out and plan the animation so that I can create my animation easier and smoother with the issue. I also did some sketches of the cloth in different forms to create a more solid form when animation the cloth so it looks nicer and smoother. the sketches help create a drawn style and also help as a great foundation on building the animation.

for the animation, I work on drawing frame-by-frame and shooting on 2’s. I followed the animation plan that I created to drawing the frames out to make a smooth and uniform animation, the plan helped to make animation go quickly and well. the perspective of the animation helps create a nice and dynamic view of the cloth falling and the reference help inspire the be more accurate. the animation is 51 frames of the cloth falling from top to bottom screen using perspective to fall from close to the screen to the bottom. I’m quite fond of the animation and I think the flow of the cloth is really nice. I do think there was a way to improve the animation such as add a shadow for more depth and also add maybe more frames at the end to slow it down a bit right at the end to make it seem like it’s gently falling down. all in all, I really like it and I think that style and animation is pretty good.
