Walk Cycle Animation

This walk cycle animation I proceeded to do a spacing chart and then proceeded to draw the walk cycle animation. For the walk cycle, I decided to do a joyous walk and do it in 25 as shown on the spacing chart.

The spacing chart that I drew was done digitally in Krita. I used to indicated the start and end of the animation and the passing points within the animation. The spacing chart was very helpful as I also did various stick figure sketches gesturing the positioning of the walk cycle for certain frames. I think that the spacing charts it explanatory and very helpful and does everything I need it too. If anything I’d probably add more to it such as some anticipation and secondary action.

when it came to actually animating the walk cycle I used Animate and drew on twos before filling the in-between frames. the walk cycle I think brings out the joyous walk that I wanted with the arms swinging and the posture puffed out chest and the happy face. there is quite a lot that I would improve here at this point. The animation is quite janky. Even though the positioning and walk cycle is already the proportion of the character keep shifting throughout and need to be fix or the character would look like it’s flickering somewhat. I definitely think it needs some improvement as it’s still quite rough. adding more frames and making better proportioned could improve it a lot.

Overall the animation displays quite a few animation techniques listing: squash and stretch in the walking, arcs in the movement of the arcs and character, timing using the chart and is done pose-to-pose. I could have added more techniques to it like anticipation and follow through with the hair and I could have done better solid drawing to make to smoother and look better.
