character Silhouette Design

Silhouette designs were the next technique I implemented into my drawings. For this, I used Pencil and Charcoal to design the silhouettes. Silhouette designs are simply just a shadowy outline of an object creature or environment. The purpose of the design is to create a unique silhouette that makes the drawing easily recognisable as the silhouette rather than needing the whole details of the design, for example, you would be able to tell if a character was Totoro or Buzz Lightyear just from there silhouettes as they are very unique characters. It’s to identify unique design and they don’t need to be complete and can be roughly sketched as long as the outline is clear enough to depict the character.

The silhouette designs that I did I like quite a bit. They depicted the design that I was going for quite well. Each silhouette was unique and depicted a clear character underneath the silhouette without needing details. I do think that I could have possibly drawn the silhouettes bigger and maybe some silhouettes were a bit more generic than others. overall I’m happy with the design and you can tell what they are and their themes from looking at them. I did 7 designs and out of all seven of them, I think that the second and sixth design is the least clear and just need some extra clarity and detailed shaping to make them more unique and obvious.
